Day 1 of Trek

We made it to 6th Crossing and set up camp. We decided to leave Ashlee with Grandma for this trip because I didn;t want her to get too hot or miserable. I though it would be better not to take her. Brynlee found an instant friend that was the same age and she was content the rest of the weekend.

Macade wanted to hike up a hill and look down on camp the first night, so I braved seeing rattlesnakes and went with him. There was a pony express marker on the top of the null.

Dallin was content playing in all the dirt that was around and teaching Cooper whatever game he could come up with.

We were up bright and early ready to pull our hand cart!

Not very long into the walk Dallin found his spot for the trek.

It was humbling to imagine what the pioneers went through on a daily basis, as I looked over the countryside and saw nothing but sage brush covered hills and no trees for shade. Summer would have been miserable, day in and day out walking in heat with not much relief. Super neat experience, our first day was actually overcast so it was tolerable to make the trek.

The Women's walk was probably my most favorite experience of the trek. The women had to watch the men walk away at the bottom of this hill like they were going to war or maybe representing death. We then had to pull our hand carts up this hill all by ourselves. It was SO HARD! It was so sandy that it felt like you were not going anywhere as you were pulling. It was really spiritual as we walked past the men at the crest of the hill, as they stood by the roadside and watched quietly with hats off. I think I even saw a few tears as I passed by.

We stopped for lunch and just ate on the side of road.

After lunch the kids did a children's walk. They pulled a hand cart up a hill by themselves. They were so proud of themselves after they finished. It was way humbling to watch.

The kids favorite part was probably the river crossing. Of course, there was a little water splashed around.

My favorite is that Dallin is just sitting down in the river!

Of course the rain came after we were all wet!
