Lake Powell

Chad's job has been a little slower because of the rain so he happened to have Friday off and we decided to hit Lake Powell. There is a back road from Escalante that shortens the drive from three hours to two. Since we have driven on this dirt road in the past we were a little nervous that it wouldn't be passable in some spots because of all the flash floods that have been happening around here, but of course we decide to take it just to see. There were a few spots that made my heart race but bearable. Then there is this wash that you have to past through just ten miles out of Lake Powell, if you can't get through it means driving all the way around and adding another three hours to your trip. We knew it was a gamble but we were willing to take it if we could get through. This is what we saw when we pull up.

We really didn't want to turn around, but didn't want to get stuck out there either, so Chad goes to investigate and determines that it is passable and that he wants me to drive and he will direct me. What? I don't drive in things like that. Finally after much persuasion he get me to drive over this wash knowing full well that one of my biggest pet peeves is to get stuck out in the middle of no where.

We made it!! Okay, so it wasn't really that bad because most of the sand was firm, but still it was scary to me. The rest of the trip was quite fun except we got poured on the whole time we were there. I thought you were suppose to come home from Lake Powell with sunburns not wet baggage. We even got stuck out on the boat in a rain storm and got to watch all the flash floods come off the cliffs into the lake, which was one of the highlights of the trip.

This is the same waterfall in five to ten minute intervals.

After the rain storm, soaked!

Another adventure down for the brown's.

  2. I don't think Jon could have talked me into driving through that wash. I know that if I had gotten stuck it would have always been my fault and he would never let me forget. But way to go you tough woman!
